The biggest cyberattack has taken place on the micro-blogging website Twitter. The accounts of big businessmen and politicians have been hacked during this time, including some technology giants.
These include accounts like Barack Obama, Alan Musk, Bill Gates, and Apple. How the hacking was done and who did it will be known in the near future. But Twitter has released a statement sharing the update based on a preliminary investigation.
Now the question is why Twitter, which makes big claims about security, was finally hacked? How hacking happens. In this hacking, the hacker has demanded bitcoin. That means hacking to do security testing. Meaning hacking is done with wrong intentions.
Twitter said an investigation was underway. But based on what has been revealed so far, the company has released a statement. The company said the social engineering attack was detected.
This is done by people who have successfully targeted the accounts of some of our employees with the help of internal systems and tools. Twitter said the attacker had access to a number of popular accounts, including Verified. Which took control of himself and tweeted instead.
According to the company, the matter is currently being investigated and we are trying to find out how the attackers misused all these accounts and what kind of information they have accessed.
Twitter said that as soon as the company was informed of the matter, all the affected accounts were immediately locked and the tweets made by the attackers were deleted.
Not only that, but the company has also said that some functions of Twitter accounts are largely limited. For example, verified accounts that were not hacked have also been restricted due to security regulations. An investigation is underway and the functionality of these accounts has been limited.
Limiting the use of verified accounts was disruptive but an important step to reduce risk. Currently, most of the features of these accounts have been activated. But we can take further steps and if that happens an update will be announced on behalf of the company.
Twitter says accounts hacked by the company are locked and their owners will be able to restore those accounts. However, this will only happen when the original Twitter security is confirmed. The company will release more updates about this hacking in the near future.
